Mobadger Icon

Origin, Meaning, and Artwork Credits

The Mobadger icon has served as the visual symbol of Mobadger Land since the earliest years of the site. The design combines two elements that represent different parts of the family’s story: a stylized badger character and the outline of the state of Missouri.

The name “Mobadger” itself is a playful combination of Missouri and Badger, bringing together both the family’s later home in Missouri and its earlier roots in Wisconsin.

Mobadger Icon

The Mobadger icon combines the Wisconsin badger tradition with the outline of Missouri, reflecting both the family’s origins and where much of its later history unfolded.

The Badger Tradition

The badger character used in the Mobadger icon was adapted from the well-known Bucky Badger mascot associated with the University of Wisconsin.

This connection reflects the family’s historical roots in Wisconsin, where the founders and their children were born and raised before eventually moving elsewhere. The badger therefore represents the family’s Wisconsin heritage.

Badgers have long been an informal symbol of Wisconsin and its people, and the character provided a natural inspiration for a family mascot representing those origins.

The Missouri Outline

The coloring used within the shape reflects the topography of Missouri, representing the varied landscape of the state — including its forests, hills, and river valleys.

While the badger symbolizes the family’s Wisconsin beginnings, the Missouri outline represents where the family eventually settled and where much of its later history unfolded. Together the elements visually represent both origins and destination.

The Mobadger Adaptation

The Mobadger version of the character was modified and adapted by Stephen G. Williams for use on this website. The adapted design combines the badger figure with the Missouri outline to create a unique symbol representing the site and the family history behind it.

Over time the icon became the recognizable mascot of Mobadger Land and has remained associated with the website since its early years.

Continuity of the Symbol

For many years the Mobadger icon has remained a recognizable symbol of the website. Although the technology behind the site has evolved—from early hand-built pages to modern platforms—the icon continues to represent the continuity of the family story behind Mobadger Land.
